Cendejas Heavy, immense, formidable and passionate, Wallowing Bull’s music lives up to his namesake. I’m especially impressed with so much of the subtle elements throughout the album, be it the various whoops, the emphasis of bass/tom drums that are reminiscent of a traditional dance drum, or even the bluesy-spirituals elements dashed across the songs, all of which blend eloquently on this anthem to indigeneity. This is powerful medicine. Favorite track: TRIBAL RESILIENCE.

Casey_Keaton Amazing album, and I can’t wait to follow his journey through music for years to come. Every track has a fire. But then the song HIYA HIYA BABY BOY comes on and it genuinely brought me to tears, this is an album I’ll never ever forget as a listener. ⚡️⚡️⚡️ Favorite track: HIYA HIYA BABY BOY.

Do you know my Indian name? Let it strike a fear in their hearts Warrior blood it flows in my veins Do you know my Indian name? Tribal chairman, listen to me Don’t ever tear your people apart I have seen resiliency Where women sing their beautiful songs Remember where the timber lays down In tribal lands where two rivers meet Blood and tears they sink in the ground My woman sings so lovely to me

In a valley where the wolves don’t sleep I am a resident of all I see I know I’m gonna be somebody I know I’m gonna be somebody I’ve seen a lot of violence in my life I see the fear inside a grown man’s eyes I know he’s gonna be somebody I know he’s gonna be somebody I was a lover in another life I gave a love that only lovers like I know I’ll never be quite ready I know I’ll never be quite ready The similarities are all profound I’m several hours from the nearest town I know I’ll never be quite ready I know I’ll never be quite ready I see the forest in my mother’s eyes A bloody coat beneath the evening sky I know she’s in my arms already I know she’s in my arms already

RICOCHET 03:13
I can feel the weight as blood comes rushing through my finger-tips some would say it’s gone it’s lost it’s touch it’s never coming back I can feel a mend It’s on my tongue It’s in the air I breathe Ricochet my soul until the rhythm brings me to my knees How the hell does one survive the wreckage of a broken life subtle drips of blood remind me that my veins still carry life satisfy my hunger with the way she brings her lips to mine rid my fears, arrest my pain until the reservoir runs dry Mercy of a woman’s touch is healing to my skin and bone resurrect the world inside the etchings of my heart and soul satisfy my hunger with the way she brings her lips to mine captivating are the skies I see inside her pretty eyes

SAVAGES 03:45
I’ve got 7 days clean and I’m feeling myself Don’t color my name with your foolish speech At the foot of my bed there’s an evil owl 7 days clean and I’m on my knees I’ve got blood on my hands and a heart of Gold I carry this weight like a bad disease cover my tracks so that no one knows I’ve got blood on my hands and I’m on my knees Lay it on down right in front of me I need a good look so I don’t forget I carry this weight like a bad disease I carry this weight like the blood on my wrist

Waking up in another goddamn hotel I’m sorry my friends, I don’t really feel like myself You see, all of my life I’ve been living with a gun in hand. I’ve got a big heart waiting for the truth, Don’t you understand? HIYA HIYA BABY BOY WHY DONT YOU SING SO SWEET I CAN HEAR THE LOVE IN YOUR VOICE x2 I’ve seen a lot things That some are never gonna see I used to sleep inside a cell, and now I live a life of luxury I know my mom’s proud It isn’t hard to see I’m gonna grind so I can buy you a house Where you can you live rent-free I bet you never heard of a rezkid dream I see my natives rising up to the top and damn it’s so lovely. Man, it’s been awhile since I seen the family. I hold my relatives close to my heart, my heart will always sing HIYA HIYA BABY BOY WHY DONT YOU SING SO SWEET I CAN HEAR THE LOVE IN YOUR VOICE x2 I’ve seen a lot things That some are never gonna see I used to sleep inside a cell, now I live a life of luxury I know my mom’s proud It isn’t hard to see I’m gonna grind so I can buy you a house Where you can you live rent-free HIYA HIYA BABY BOY WHY DONT YOU SING SO SWEET I CAN HEAR THE LOVE IN YOUR VOICE x2 HIYA HIYA BABY GIRL WHY DONT YOU SING SO SWEET DON’T YOU KNOW YOU’LL ALWAYS BE MY WORLD x2

ANCESTORS 04:11
Waiting on my whole damn life waiting on my time Kindness shown through her eyes kindness, I’ll abide Cedar burns earth and sky burn my soul tonight As the fire glows in the ground In the lodge outside There’s a fire glowing around your eyes I don’t want to move on I would much rather stay all the brilliant light in my life I don’t want it to go away Where the hell does it go? all the fears and the pain do you know in your heart that your ancestors felt what you feel today? Wolf lays down under big sky Old crow sings tonight I don’t want to move on from this beautiful place all the fear in my heart is the hand that I hold as it goes away

about

The very first idea and name I had for this LP was, “kind human”. I originally imagined the cover being something more of a human skeleton, and having more to do with my own journey with recovery and self care, and not so much to do with a Buffalo kill. As each song started to form, the idea of the album name, “kind human” would eventually turn into My first Buffalo hunt. This felt more fitting.

The opening track begins with, “Do you know my Indian name?!”. That line struck me at my kitchen table one morning, and would not leave me. From that place I thought of one of the most significant times in my life…, “My first Buffalo hunt”. It is the time that I was given my Indian name by my family. It was this opening line that brought the rest of the album into perspective.
