about

The song starts off strong with big and powerful vocals. When I started writing a song that I knew I would want to be the intro to the album, all I knew is that I wanted something striking.

As I began to form the chords and overall drone-mood, I heard these lyrics screaming in my head, “DO YOU KNOW MY INDIAN NAME?!”
That’s all I heard for a couple of days. It took me about 3 days to finish writing the song.

I came up with the idea of being proud of your heritage and who you are. The opening song needed to be the anthem that gave context to the album name and cover. It was after my first Buffalo hunt that my grandmother gave me my Indian name.

lyrics

Do you know my Indian name?
Let it strike a fear in their hearts
Warrior blood it flows in my veins
Do you know my Indian name?

Tribal chairman, listen to me
Don’t ever tear your people apart
I have seen resiliency
Where women sing their beautiful songs

Remember where the timber lays down
In tribal lands where two rivers meet
Blood and tears they sink in the ground
My woman sings so lovely to me
