The original name for this song was, “KIND HUMAN”. This is what I had planned to name the entire album in the beginning. It didn’t take long for it to develop into something greater.

I have always considered my work to be connected to my people and culture in some way. I believe that it is ancestral.

The window that I had for finishing this particular song was closing fast. I only had one night left to finish writing and recording this track. I had the first verse written, but the rest was incredibly elusive. It took many hours of writing and re-writing ideas, but the final thought and lyrics came from an incredibly emotional moment that I had during this process.

“Ancestors” isn’t defined or interpreted by my journey or experiences alone. It is left wide open for you. The ending of the song is understanding moments in your life that you remember while listening.
